On August 21st, around 4 a.m., a state trooper in Tempe, Arizona, intentionally drove their car into a driver that was going the wrong way on Loop 101. The vehicle was reported traveling eastbound down the westbound lanes of Interstate 10 near Broadway Road; the trooper found the vehicle between Gualaupe and Baseline roads. The vehicle was a red Cadillac being operated by 22-year-old Isaias Luis Llanos. The trooper that stopped the vehicle was driving an unmarked SUV.
Llanos was reportedly driving under the influence. He was arrested and jailed for DUI, aggravated DUI-wrong-way driving, DUI drugs, aggravated assault, and endangerment. While Llanos was driving the wrong way, he allegedly passed and almost hit several vehicles.
Thankfully neither the state trooper nor Llanos suffered non-life-threatening injuries, but both were transported to the hospital. The trooper was able to successfully collide with the Cadillac to bring it to a stop and not continue to be a threat to other drivers.
